On 4 October it will be the 90th anniversary of professor Nikolina Georgieva, one of puppet theatre doyens in Bulgaria. We will remember her with lots of love and gratitude with the documentary Music, Poetry, Puppets (director Vanya Ivanova) of the Bulgarian National Television series “The Puppets Come to Life”.
Nikolina Georgieva is a representative of the puppet theatre community in Bulgaria awarded the People’s Artist title. She is an activist of the international puppet theatre movement, the founder of the “shadows theatre” in the country and of the Bulgarian UNIMA Centre, which she presided for long years. Together with Atanas Ilkov and Ivan Tsonev she established the professional puppet theatre education in Bulgaria.
Her performance Petya and The Wolf, produced together with Atanas Ilkov, won a Gold Medal and the Originality and Fantasy award and the Animal Carnival – the Silver Rose award at the International TV and Film Festival in Montreux, Switzerland. She has been granted dozens of national and international honours and her art has been an inspiration and a valuable legacy for generations of puppeteers and lovers of puppetry.
